Who are we hiring?
The Senior Manager Building Operations is responsible for scheduling, planning, and overseeing the employees engaged in overnight building maintenance, cleaning and event set up/break down. The Senior Manager will develop Back of House (BOH) trade event budgets for MSGE, Teams and Sports Properties events matching staffing to event needs in the most efficient manner. The Senior Manager will also collaborate with the Capital Project team providing support, project management and assuring labor workforce is available and as budgeted.
What will you do?
- Schedule and supervise the overnight activities of all Back of House (BOH) trades setting up events and cleaning the building including, utility workers, electricians, custodians, engineers. Activities to include Event Set-Up/Load-In, Event Break-Down/Load Out and cleaning operations.
- Plans, directs and schedules large overnight utility staff of FT union (~45) and PT non-union (~80) trades and manages internal labor costs.
- Assist the Director, Building Operations with utility worker budgeting, payroll & scheduling.
- Track costs against budgets for both the event (load-in/set-up/event/load-out) and departmental operations (repairs/maintenance). Make necessary changes in process/procedures/scheduling to assure labor and event expenses track to each event budget.
- Assure and approve union laborer staffing schedules to assure efficiency in labor calls for both event requirements and maintenance functions. Monitor facility condition and plan; organize/assign work for trade labor in a cost-conscious manner, while seeking highest level of service and arena bowl cleanliness to guests, clients, and other building occupants.
- Assist the Director, Building Operations, develop, maintain, and implement preventative maintenance programs for all sports related equipment including basketball courts, basketball backstops, hockey dasher boards, hockey spectator nets, staging, arena & theater seating, cleaning & material handling equipment. Engage outside vendors as necessary to make necessary repairs or complete service.
- Continuously review departmental needs and make recommendations on employee training, equipment, maintenance procedures and special projects with a goal of ensuring the highest client satisfaction and guest experience.

What do you need to succeed?
- The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5-10 years of Facility Management experience dealing with multiple events/tasks in a time sensitive environment.
- Progressive experience in Facilities Management with direct responsibility for supervising back of house operating functions with an emphasis on Building Maintenance and Operations.
- Ability to demonstrate success in managing multiple tasks while under tight deadlines and financial constraints.
- Leadership ability that can guide across multiple functions and labor groups.
- Excellent communication skills with all levels of the organization.
- Proven success managing a union staff; thorough understanding of progressive disciplinary process, ability to train and mentor staff.
- Ability to resolve conflicts.
- Commitment to providing a high-quality service experience for both internal and external clients.
- Ability to plan for, develop, analyze, and manage expenses to a budget.
- Experience Managing a highly unionized workforce operating under multiple CBA’s.
- In depth knowledge of building systems and facility management.
- Knowledge and ability to create, understand and manage complex departmental P&L’s, Event, Operating and Capital Budgets. Must be proficient in understanding and participating in the financial reporting process (forecasting spending, cash flow, and identification of potential departmental risks and opportunities).
- PC skills including MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
Special Requirements
- This is an Overnight Position
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including day/afternoon & nights, have split days off, work weekends and holidays in a 24-hour, 7 days a week environment.
