Who are we hiring?
The Vice President Benefits is responsible for leading the Benefits functions at the MSG Family of Companies, which includes MSG Entertainment, MSG Sports, and Sphere Entertainment. As the leader of MSG’s Benefits team, the VP leads all aspects of analyzing, designing, and implementing employee benefits programs across three separate, publicly traded companies, for employees at all levels. This senior level subject matter expert supports our diverse employee population with responsibility for health and welfare programs, retirement plans, time away from work/leave of absence plans, as well as union benefits funding administration.
What will you do?
- Design, assess and manage existing and prospective benefit plans, programming, vendors, and providers. Manage an extensive network of recordkeepers, actuaries, broker consultants, and administrative platforms.
- Oversee market research/analysis to determine or support changes in current benefit plans/programs to remain competitive in our markets and ensure internal consistency.
- Partner closely with, and communicate proactively and provide consulting expertise to, the People Practices team regarding all Benefit matters (administration, programs, and policies) to maintain the organization's ability to attract, retain, and support employees.
- Leverage prior expertise to manage union complexities. Audit and approve all union fringe benefit payments and ensure payments are made timely to reduce late penalties.
- Serve as the subject matter expert advising the Investment and Benefits Committees of all three companies.
- Ensure company compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Supervise preparation of reports and applications required by law to be filed with federal and state agencies, such as the Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, insurance commissioners, and other regulatory agencies.
- Support mergers and acquisitions in due diligence and post integration phases as needed.
- Partner with People Operations, IT, Payroll, Legal, and Finance to ensure accuracy and data integrity of benefit records and reporting to outside vendors.
- Provide white-glove support of executive management to ensure they have a thorough understanding of the plans and assist with their enrollment.
- Manage a high-performing and effective team of benefits experts; lead by example, carve out opportunities for individual development, and act as a player coach.
What do you need to succeed?
- Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in designing and managing benefit programs in a (or multiple) organizations of comparable scope, scale, and complexity.
- Broad understanding of the technical and functional components of benefits including benefits operations, administration, compliance, M&A due diligence/integration, and employee communications.
- Deep knowledge of retirement benefits including experience managing multiple Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution plans, including Qualified and Non-Qualified plans, concurrently.
- Extensive knowledge of ERISA.
- Strong strategic thinker, capable of translating business objectives into tactical action plans and milestones.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts in a clear and digestible manner.
- Demonstrated experience working alongside C-Suite Executives and comfortable managing in a matrixed organization.
- Capable of thinking through nuanced and complex situations with a reputation for using diplomacy to navigate through sensitive matters.
- Exceptional analytical and reporting skills, must be highly data-driven.
