VP Security

Who are we hiring?

The Vice President Security will oversee and manage the day to day operation of the venue security program, as well as the company’s physical security program which include security technology and the Security Operations Center, a 24/7 security monitoring operation that covers all of MSG’s physical locations. Reporting to the SVP & Chief Security Officer, this position will lead a team of Security professionals located within all of MSG’s venues, nation-wide. The position is a critical partner with all internal corporate functions to protect MSG’s people, assets and brand reputation. In addition to regular venue operational responsibilities, the Vice President Venue Security will assist and support the Executive Protection program as needed.  

What will you do?

  • Responsible for the overall physical safety and security programs of MSG venues, surrounding areas, event security team and corporate offices, including the management of our Security Operations Center, a 24/7 operation which monitors physical security at all locations.
  • Lead team of security professionals in the day to day management of our physical locations to ensure safety policies are routinely updated and assets are protected from potential risks.
  • Liase with Local 177 union to ensure relationships are in good standing, and ensure department is following CBA standards. Will play a lead role in contract negotiations to ensure the CBA supports MSGs goals and objectives for employee population.
  • Lead team responsible for driving the identification, implementation, and daily operation of all security systems and programs needed to ensure Madison Square Garden corporate locations, venues and affiliates are operating under best in class standards and safety measures.
  • Assist with the pre-opening phases and buildout of Sphere security program in Las Vegas & other locations as needed.
  • Manage team responsible for the development of security metrics that will enable the company to make data driven decisions for physical security needs.
  • Collaborate with property management and city/state/federal authorities to ensure relationships are maintained and assistance is available when the need arises.
  • Adopt industry best practices and ensure MSG has plan for emergency preparedness and continuity of operations in all venue operations.
  • Collaborate with SVP Threat Management by incorporating policies and training protocols that continuously develop employees.
  • Perform security and risk assessments of facilities, including security equipment condition and provide summary of needed improvements to senior management.
  • Supplement and support the Executive Protection program as needed. Required protection may include both Domestic & International assignments to support our Senior Leadership Team.
  • Perform other broad security duties as needed/directed to accomplish the overall security mission at MSG
  • Supervision of Director Security (2), and Manager Security. Oversight over Security department, totaling roughly 1,000 employees including union represented officers and part time staff

What do you need to succeed?

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in a senior level security management role across a spectrum of security functions, with an emphasis on sports or live events. Four-year degree in Criminal Justice or related field requires, MBA preferred.
  • Experience leading large teams of varying degrees of security expertise, with proven record of commitment to development of such teams.
  • Proven ability to assess, develop and successfully execute strategic internal and external security plans and quickly adapt to change as required by events, including managing budgets of such security plans.
  • Previous experience managing in a union environment with an emphasis on negotiating collective bargaining agreements.
  • Ability to present an uplifting personality while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality and business ethics
  • Demonstrates integrity, tact, diplomacy and a commitment to company values and principles while ensuring the upmost consistency
  • Adept at maintaining a positive, open, approachable, and professional relationship during interactions with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including executive leadership, security officers, and local, state and federal agencies
  • Problem solving, reasoning, motivational and organizational abilities are used often
  • Knowledge of CCTV, surveillance equipment, alarms and radio communications
  • Prior Executive Protection experience desirable.

Special Requirements

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required.
  • Frequent typing with repetitive motion, sitting, and extensive walking through the building required.
  • Travel may be required (Domestic or International)-15% (Normal operations)-Travel may increase to 75% based upon venue pre-opening phases or business demands.
