Who are we hiring?

The archives student associate will gain experience in the three primary functions of the MSG Archives — collections management, exhibits + projects, and research.  

As part of the Creative Studio team, you will work closely with the Senior Director and Archives Specialist as well as several other stakeholders to ensure a best-in-class experience across all brands and venues. The ideal candidate must be a quick learner who can problem-solve in a collaborative, fast-paced, and highly dynamic culture.

Student Associate Program Overview

This program is designed to create real, valuable opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to learn, grow, and explore MSG Entertainment, MSG Sports, and Sphere. As a Student Associate, you will gain valuable experience that will be applicable throughout your career. While participating in the Student Associate Program, students will have the opportunity to work with our employees to get a full understanding of the business. We also provide additional learning and development opportunities through an executive speaker series, mentorship program, career development workshops, and other social events.

Specific Functions/Activities Summary

Collections Management 

  • Add physical archival assets to Content Management System (CMS) or acquisition tracker 
  • Update Metadata of digital assets before transfer to new CMS 
  • Transfer records from SharePoint or Airtable to the CMS 
  • Create intake records for items collected for the archives in Airtable 
  • Follow process and workflow that inform how and when digital & physical assets are archived; prioritize large collections for processing
  • Participate in the co-curation and exhibit maintenance at venue and off-site locations 

What do you need to succeed?

Knowledge & Skills: 

  • Be enrolled in a museum studies, archives, or history related field at a college or university
  • Experience working with historical archives or museum collections or possess a desire to work in this field 
  • Detail oriented and have an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously 
  • Experience in using a museum content management system such as Past Perfect, QI or EMu or exhibit a willingness to learn 
  • Strong research capabilities 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Must be organized with exceptional time management and multitasking skills, with an ability to thrive under pressure 

Requirements: 

  • Must be available to work 35 hours a week.  
  • Must be available from end of May to early August. 
  • Must be enrolled as a rising junior, senior, or graduate student. 
  • Must have a GPA of 3.2 or above.
