Overview:

The New York Knicks are seeking a talented and driven Coordinator of Coaching Analytics to join our team. This role is pivotal in enhancing our team’s performance through advanced data analysis, strategic insights, and robust reporting. The ideal candidate will possess strong SQL skills, expertise in data science, and proficiency in at least one of R or Python, paired with exceptional report-building capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Analysis & Interpretation:
    • Utilize SQL to extract, clean, and manipulate large datasets from various sources.
    • Develop and apply advanced statistical models to derive actionable insights.
    • Analyze game and player performance data to support coaching strategies, in-game decisions and enhance player development.
  • Reporting & Visualization:
    • Design and create comprehensive reports to communicate key findings and trends to coaching staff and management.
    • Develop visualizations that effectively convey complex data insights to stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in SQL for database querying and management.
    • Strong expertise in at least one programming language such as R or Python, with a focus on data analysis and statistical modeling.
    • Experience with data visualization tools and techniques.
  • Data Science Expertise:
    • Demonstrated experience in applying data science methodologies to real-world problems, ideally in a sports or performance-focused context.
    • Ability to develop and interpret complex statistical models and algorithms.
  • Report Building & Communication:
    • Proven ability to create clear, actionable reports and visualizations that support strategic decision-making.
    • Strong communication skills with the capability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Education & Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Sports Analytics, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a data analysis role, with a focus on sports analytics being highly desirable.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
    • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
