Who are we hiring?
The Vice President of Accounting is responsible for the operational control of the public company books and records for corporate accounting at Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. This role also oversees the Shared Services provided to three separate public companies, collectively referred to as the “MSG Companies.” The Shared Services generally include Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. Additionally, the role encompasses the accounting for various MSG Entertainment departments, such as Technology, People Practices, Legal, and certain Finance departments—including Corporate Development, Investor Relations, Procurement, Tax, and Treasury—that function as shared-service departments.
What will you do?
- Provide accounting support to the executive departments (CEO, Executive Chairman and Executive Support)
- Lead team to manage public company monthly closing for the corporate accounting, including the preparation of all journal entries, including company-wide mass allocations, recurring entries, in accordance with the monthly closing calendar.
- managing the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes across all MSG Companies
- lead the finance team for The Garden of Dreams Foundation (GDF) and oversee the day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and external audit coordination.
- Responsible for the accounting for MSG Entertainments payroll, bonus, and severance accounting
- Manage monthly closing process, reviewing journal entries as well as reviewing Oracle financial reports for variances and providing guidance and assistance to Corporate Accounting staff. Ensuring timely and accurate closing of Oracle General Ledger and subledgers (AP, AR, and Fixed Assets).
- Manage shared services for consolidated company to ensure timeliness of vendor payments, billings and cash receipts, and the fixed asset capital expenditures process.
- Evaluate and identify areas of potential exposure and internal control weakness and evaluate and improve processes and workflows to improve completion times.
- Assist in updates and system conversions for general ledger and subledgers, suggest enhancements, and confirm functionality of delivered products meet requested expectations.
- Manage debt, pension plan accounting, stock compensation, and other corporate type accounting matters.
- Provide insight on current processes and supporting the Finance groups in delivery of Budget and Forecasts.
- Maintain SOX compliance, issue internal statements and reports on a timely basis, meeting all external reporting requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS or BA in Accounting/Finance, or equivalent, CPA a must,
- Big 4 public accounting strongly preferred,
- Minimum 15+ years related experience.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and SEC rules and regulations,
- High energy with the ability to lead an accounting team through transformational change,
- Comfortable with leading discussions on accounting matters with senior leaders including the Chief Accounting Officers of the MSG Companies and all departmental heads,
- Prior supervisory experience a must
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office required,
- Experience with Financial Systems and corporate applications with Oracle Cloud (Fusion) proficiency strongly preferred,
- Strong analytical account analysis skills,
- Strong understanding of monthly closing, forecasting, and budgeting processes,
- Ability to work both independently to trouble shoot and problem solve,
- Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and open to learning new ways of working,
- Ability to be a reliable team member, capable of effective collaboration to achieve our shared goals across teams, departments, and companies,
